Meet Baby J! (blog post by Julie)

Okay, I admit it…I have a pretty cool job! Where else can you go to work with people that are experiencing the greatest times of their life—their wedding day, a new baby, graduating from high school. I get to be a part of these really happy events with really happy people and capture the moment in pictures. It is all pretty exciting!

Well, this is one of those moments. I felt so privileged to be in the presence of Baby J. She is so perfect! And her mom and grandmother love her so much, you could feel it. Here she is on day 8. Of course, we really wanted her asleep so she could enjoy her photo shoot a little more, but, of course, she was wide awake from beginning to end. I cannot wait to see how much she has changed in a few months.

Mothers of Preschoolers International — Teaching moms how to take better pictures…

Next Wednesday, December 15, I get the privilege of speaking at our local chapter of Mothers of Preschoolers International. The topic will be subject near and dear to my heart–photos. I remember wanting so badly to capture my child’s true personality and, then, as if on cue, the moment the camera came up, the cute moment turned south. Sometimes the smile turned into a fake grin or, more often than not, a battle scene ensued and the magical moment was lost. Unfortunately, when my kiddos were little, I was not a professional photographer and did not have the knowledge of lighting and composition that I have now. These moments are fleeting and you want to make the most of it. I love passing on what I know. Obviously, there is a time and place for professional portraiture and, of course, I hope everyone remembers me but, in the meantime, get out those digital cameras and take the best pictures you can with a few simple principles in mind. I will be speaking at the Lookout Mountain Community Church’s MOPS chapter at 9AM on Dec 15, Wednesday morning. If you would like to join us, please call 303.526.9287 prior to Wednesday.

We always put our heart and soul into every shoot and this one was extra special. We have known Ashley and Jason since they commissioned us to shoot their wedding at Cherokee Ranch and Castle back in 2007. Since then, we have shot one of her closest college friend’s wedding and are booked to shoot her sister, Amanda’s wedding, next April at The Curtis. And now…the next generation. They have a very incredibly precious baby and we are privileged once again to photograph one of life’s fleeting moments, their newborn. We could not be happier for this new little family. It was such a treat that Ashley’s mom was available to come with Ashley and Jason to view the images tonight in our studio. It really does come down to those awesome relationships that make us love what we do and of course, we are always happy when we get to present some killer shots such as…

Wall art

Wall art? What is it? It is simply art for your walls. In our context, it is creating artwork from the people you love the most, your family. This is what warms a home and proclaims who is special to you. I love it when people choose to decorate the walls of their home with images from their family. Snapshots have their place but I am talking about taking the best images your family has ever taken and displaying it in a very artistic and creative way. We have had the privilege of shooting a family from Evergreen over the years. It began with the son’s senior pictures and then the daughter’s senior pictures. They are now off at college and the mother wanted something special to adorn the walls of her home. We designed a unique layout of 24 galley wraps. We are all thrilled with the results.

Sometimes you just get that magic moment in family photography that captures everyone’s personality. I love this image of this family. It is all in their expressions. Family photography reminds me just how much we are all changing. This is our third shoot with the baby and she changes so much in just three months that I can hardly recognize her. Just blink and these girls are in grade school, blink again and they are leaving for college. I guess that is why I love photography and feel it is such an absolute essential part of the family. These moments are fleeting and, if you are always the one taking the pictures, you are not in the shot. The really awesome part is that this photo will grow more and more valuable to this family over time, as the girls change and grow older. Just wanted to share this special moment with this family…

OK-I am not sure it is even possible to get any cuter than this…I am pretty sure this baby is the ultimate in baby good looks! This is our second shoot with her. She was absolutely precious at 2 weeks but even cuter now! What a great job we have-shooting images of these fleeting moments…she’ll look really different in three short months. Check it out…

Evergreen Family Shoot

About two weeks ago, we had the privilege of shooting this family. Pretty amazing people! Due to some scheduling difficulties, we had only about twenty minutes! Yikes! Our normal session lasts at least an hour. Thankfully, everyone felt really comfortable right away–even this precious baby. On the count of three, she would explode with applause, laughter and a huge grin. Don’t think for a minute that we did not take her special talent and use it over and over again to create some awesome images. Absolutely precious! She is the definition of delight.
Michael is the one who contacted us for this photo shoot. Michael is an amazing man and he is running for the 6th US Congressional District. Please check out his website at www.kearnsforcongress.com. His website may be under construction for a few more days, so be sure to check back. He is a passionate man with a message you will want to hear. Michael is also the only man to have parachuted over all seven continents and, for his fortieth birthday, did 41 parachute jumps. He is definitely someone you want to get to know!
