Sometimes you just get that magic moment in family photography that captures everyone’s personality. I love this image of this family. It is all in their expressions. Family photography reminds me just how much we are all changing. This is our third shoot with the baby and she changes so much in just three months that I can hardly recognize her. Just blink and these girls are in grade school, blink again and they are leaving for college. I guess that is why I love photography and feel it is such an absolute essential part of the family. These moments are fleeting and, if you are always the one taking the pictures, you are not in the shot. The really awesome part is that this photo will grow more and more valuable to this family over time, as the girls change and grow older. Just wanted to share this special moment with this family…

OK-I am not sure it is even possible to get any cuter than this…I am pretty sure this baby is the ultimate in baby good looks! This is our second shoot with her. She was absolutely precious at 2 weeks but even cuter now! What a great job we have-shooting images of these fleeting moments…she’ll look really different in three short months. Check it out…

Evergreen Family Shoot

About two weeks ago, we had the privilege of shooting this family. Pretty amazing people! Due to some scheduling difficulties, we had only about twenty minutes! Yikes! Our normal session lasts at least an hour. Thankfully, everyone felt really comfortable right away–even this precious baby. On the count of three, she would explode with applause, laughter and a huge grin. Don’t think for a minute that we did not take her special talent and use it over and over again to create some awesome images. Absolutely precious! She is the definition of delight.
Michael is the one who contacted us for this photo shoot. Michael is an amazing man and he is running for the 6th US Congressional District. Please check out his website at www.kearnsforcongress.com. His website may be under construction for a few more days, so be sure to check back. He is a passionate man with a message you will want to hear. Michael is also the only man to have parachuted over all seven continents and, for his fortieth birthday, did 41 parachute jumps. He is definitely someone you want to get to know! Colorado Family Shoot

We created this little video of one of our family shoots. The family wanted a true Colorado setting and they got more than they bargained for-snowing like crazy and twenty degrees. No one complained and we worked really fast! Beautiful family and it was a real privilege to work with them. We are honored to have one of these images hanging above their fireplace as a very large gallery wrap. Please enjoy…

On February 18, this world lost one of its angels but it was definitely heaven’s gain. Chris’ mother passed away after a year long bout with breast cancer that spread to her liver. She was truly an amazing woman-so full of kindness and grace. It has been a hard couple of weeks…I am so intensely grateful for my family, both extended and immediate. They are truly awesome and life would not at all be the same without family.
A while back I included these lyrics in an email I sent out to many of you but I think it needs to be repeated because we can all forget what is important from time to time:

Help Portrait Event

We participated in the world-wide Help Portrait photography event on December 12, 2009. Thousands of photographers gave their time and talent to give the gift of free professional portraits to people who really don’t have the margin in life to afford them otherwise. We chose to work with six single mothers and their families. A couple of these families had not had a family portrait taken since their kids were born nine years ago. Other families said their only family photo was of an earlier time when the family dynamics were much different. It was a thrill to do this for these amazing women and their families!

Don’t for a minute think that this shoot was not cold…it was COLD! The entire family were such great sports. I think the temperatures were in the 30’s. It definitely takes some encouragement, positive thinking and some magic “warm up candy” to get great shots of families in this weather. My favorite shots below are between brother and sister. Sometimes happy accidents just happen. Chris and I had pretty much used our arsenal of “can’t-lose-gonna-make-’em-smile-tricks” and decided to just take a break inspite of the setting sun and falling temperatures, when something unexpected happened between brother and sister and got all of us giggling. This is just a sneak preview of some of our images and cannot wait to show the family the whole thing!

This idea came to me while editing this little guy’s family shoot. In every picture frame he had a completely different expression-a completely different emotion. It just cracked me up! When I showed it to his parents, they just loved how it captured the ever-changing moods and expressions of their young son. So I just had to share…
