Jennifer and Brent get married {Colorado wedding photography}

Calvary Baptist Church and Terrace Garden at Ken Caryl

Congratulations to Jennifer and Brent! We are so thrilled to have had the privilege of shooting their wedding. They met at Baylor University, fell in love and now have a wonderful life before them! Since their church is such an important part of their lives, it was the obvious location choice for their “first look”. In case you’ve never heard that terminology, that is when the bride and groom have a special meeting arranged prior to the wedding ceremony. We then left the church with the bridal party and headed to a nearby park. Weddings are always crazy and unpredictable but this was a new one, even for us. There was a real locomotive going around the park-I’m guessing its main passengers are children-but they allowed the entire bridal party to climb aboard for a photo op. Really fun! We all returned to the church for a beautiful ceremony given by their pastors. The main take-away message I received was that marriage is meant to make us holy, not happy. I think there is something very profound in that message and just wanted to share it with our blog followers.

After the ceremony, the couple was whisked away to Terrace Gardens. More photo ops on their gorgeous grounds (and maybe even the nearby golf course) and then onto a night of dancing, dancing and more dancing. Jen and Brent’s first dance is my absolute favorite! (and we get to see a lot of first dances). The first unusual part was that the father/daughter dance came first. That was followed by a “seemingly” awkward couple’s dance that was interrupted by an apparent error by the DJ. The music then continued with numerous tracks for which the bride and groom had choreographed awesome dance moves to. It was an incredible surprise that only the DJ, bridesmaid and myself were in on. Great job on making such a memorable and fun first dance for us all to enjoy. The evening ended with the bride and groom running to a very decorated car amidst fireworks.

Jennifer and Brent have a beautiful love story and a long happy marriage ahead of them. We are grateful that we were chosen to photograph them and preserve their memories. Here is just a few favorites, many more to come!

Betina and Ken get married!–Boettcher Mansion–Colorado wedding photography

June 5 was a much anticipated and long awaited day for Ken and Betina. They met downtown at The Westin Hotel and then traveled up to The Boettcher Mansion for their ceremony and reception. It was truly an international event since the bride and many of her family members are from South America and her maid of honor was from Russia. The maid of honor gave the bride wonderful surprises like a slideshow and a candlelit reception to the couple’s announcement at the reception. The attire was black tie, fairly unique to casual Colorado-every guest in a tux or a long gown. We are so thrilled to have been a part of Ken and Betina’s wonderful day. Ken and Betina-what an amazing couple! We shot their engagement session a couple of weeks ago in LODO. Betina is a warm, wonderfully passionate woman with a Latin flair and Ken could not take his eyes off her. I don’t remember being with a groom that was so focused on his wife-to-be. It is awesome to be in their presence. This shoot ranged from fun and carefree to passionate to romantic. I loved every minute of it. Their wedding is to be in early June at Boettcher Mansion and I cannot wait to see what amazing images result from their incredible day.

Colorado Engagement Session

I received a phone call from Lindsay a while back. She had just recently gotten engaged and wanted to get her engagement pictures taken. I love this girl-she has her priories straight. Even before her venue or dress, she wanted to document the feelings that she and Jake share at this incredibly exciting time of their lives. I love engagement sessions! We were happy to oblige. We settled on Central City. It is an old rusty, dusty mining town-turned-gamling center with cool old buildings and textures. Usually Chris and I have a bit of work to do when we shoot people we have never met before-usually getting them to relax and trust us to make them look good. No need this time. These guys rocked. They are so into each other, making our job very, very easy.

We are so happy for our new friends and their exciting future together. They still do not have a wedding site or date quite nailed down but it sounds like it will be sooner than later. One of the perks of this job is hanging out with people in love…pretty cool. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we can work with them again on their wedding day-just waiting to see what that awesome date is going to be. More to come but for now…

One of the things I love the most about shooting weddings is the engagement session. No major timelines, wedding day stress, or crowds…it is just a golden opportunity to work together and have a lot of fun. One of the greatest perks is that we get to see what the couple loves regarding their photography and we gain their confidence and trust that we are going to definitely deliver amazing images on the most important day of their lives, their wedding day.

We first met Katie and Jeremy in December when wedding planner extraordinaire, Emily Lenich of Particulars Planning, introduced us. Emily has helped them so much. They have about 6 months to go before their wedding date and, thanks to Emily’s awesome guidance, all the big decisions have been made and they can just sit back and relax and enjoy their engagement. Katie and Jeremy will be getting married in September in a beautiful Denver church with the reception at the ultra-chic Museum of Nature and Science. To contrast their urban wedding day, they chose Red Rocks for the backdrop of their engagement shoot. This allowed them to bring along their beloved dogs, Bella and Riley. We created these cards for them to send out to their wedding guests. Since Katie and Jeremy are not from the same hometown, not all of their guests know both bride and groom-this is a great way to let the world know who is getting married. It also helps their guests clear their calendar and make plans to attend the big day! We have more awesome images to share later, for now here are their Save the Date cards …

There is a brand new blog in Colorado that, if you are getting married, it is a must for inspiration.

The current feature is about shoes, non-white wedding shoes. Laura Dombrowski, the blog’s author, puts a brand new twist on wearing colorful shoes–think of it as going “green”. Wear the shoes on your wedding day AND later. This means less waste. It is also a great excuse to show off your adventurous side.
One of featured images is one of ours from a workshop on Trash the Dress. To see more about Trash the Dress, go here. One of our models wore a gorgeous wedding gown with…cowboy boots! They were perfect for the dusty mining town we were shooting in.
