Mothers of Preschoolers International — Teaching moms how to take better pictures…

Next Wednesday, December 15, I get the privilege of speaking at our local chapter of Mothers of Preschoolers International. The topic will be subject near and dear to my heart–photos. I remember wanting so badly to capture my child’s true personality and, then, as if on cue, the moment the camera came up, the cute moment turned south. Sometimes the smile turned into a fake grin or, more often than not, a battle scene ensued and the magical moment was lost. Unfortunately, when my kiddos were little, I was not a professional photographer and did not have the knowledge of lighting and composition that I have now. These moments are fleeting and you want to make the most of it. I love passing on what I know. Obviously, there is a time and place for professional portraiture and, of course, I hope everyone remembers me but, in the meantime, get out those digital cameras and take the best pictures you can with a few simple principles in mind. I will be speaking at the Lookout Mountain Community Church’s MOPS chapter at 9AM on Dec 15, Wednesday morning. If you would like to join us, please call 303.526.9287 prior to Wednesday.

Sometimes you just get that magic moment in family photography that captures everyone’s personality. I love this image of this family. It is all in their expressions. Family photography reminds me just how much we are all changing. This is our third shoot with the baby and she changes so much in just three months that I can hardly recognize her. Just blink and these girls are in grade school, blink again and they are leaving for college. I guess that is why I love photography and feel it is such an absolute essential part of the family. These moments are fleeting and, if you are always the one taking the pictures, you are not in the shot. The really awesome part is that this photo will grow more and more valuable to this family over time, as the girls change and grow older. Just wanted to share this special moment with this family…

OK-I am not sure it is even possible to get any cuter than this…I am pretty sure this baby is the ultimate in baby good looks! This is our second shoot with her. She was absolutely precious at 2 weeks but even cuter now! What a great job we have-shooting images of these fleeting moments…she’ll look really different in three short months. Check it out…

Evergreen Family Shoot

About two weeks ago, we had the privilege of shooting this family. Pretty amazing people! Due to some scheduling difficulties, we had only about twenty minutes! Yikes! Our normal session lasts at least an hour. Thankfully, everyone felt really comfortable right away–even this precious baby. On the count of three, she would explode with applause, laughter and a huge grin. Don’t think for a minute that we did not take her special talent and use it over and over again to create some awesome images. Absolutely precious! She is the definition of delight.
Michael is the one who contacted us for this photo shoot. Michael is an amazing man and he is running for the 6th US Congressional District. Please check out his website at www.kearnsforcongress.com. His website may be under construction for a few more days, so be sure to check back. He is a passionate man with a message you will want to hear. Michael is also the only man to have parachuted over all seven continents and, for his fortieth birthday, did 41 parachute jumps. He is definitely someone you want to get to know! If you ever need a good travel agent (and trust me, grooms, you need one), you should really get to know Susan Hammond of Land and Sea Journeys. We booked our summer get-away to the Bahamas with Susan and it was truly a trip of a lifetime! When she contacted us about shooting her family, we were so excited as it had been years since their last shoot (in fact, I don’t think all three sons have ever had a shoot together). It was obvious to us that everyone had really outgoing personalities and a great way of relating to each other. It was a great bonus to have such amazing fall color!
